5 Reasons to Visit the Chiropractor During the Holidays

The holiday season is one of the most fast-paced times of the year, so much so that we tend to overlook our self-care routines. Although the holidays are known for togetherness, giving, and getting ready for a new year ahead, the chaos of it all can be quite taxing on our bodies. It is a common trend for many people to experience higher levels of stress, increased pain, or injuries during the holidays, which is why it is important to remember to support our bodies this season.

Why Visit the Chiropractor?

1. Control Your Stress

The holidays can be a stressful time of year trying to meet many needs and expectations of employers, loved ones, and friends. This stress can then emerge physically as neck pain, lower back pain, tension, or even jaw pain. The tension caused by stress can leave our bodies vulnerable to obtaining further physical injury or influence our bodies to develop harmful habits. Chiropractic care, however, is a beneficial tool that can help address the many negative bodily impacts stemming from stress.

2. Injury Prevention

There is a multitude of potential dangers that come along with living in a colder climate some of which include slippery sidewalks, shoveling snow, and icy roads. Unfortunately, enduring a snowy day can lead to injury caused by falling, auto accidents, or heavy lifting.

Living in a warmer climate during the holidays can also bring forth some dangerous situations. Along with the endless shopping that occurs during the holidays, comes hours of decorating and tons of heavy lifting; all of which can lead to serious injury. Fortunately, visiting a chiropractic center sooner than later can help to prevent and reduce injury that may occur during the holiday season.

3. Travel

Traveling during the holiday season can consist of a variety of factors like long road trips, uncomfortable plane rides, and unfamiliar sleeping arrangements. All of these factors combined can take a considerable toll on our bodies. If you find that your body has been negatively affected by holiday travel, chiropractic care can provide you with many physical health benefits.

4. Winter Blues

About 15% of Americans suffer from a milder form of seasonal affective disorder, also known as winter blues, that occurs when an individual is challenged by the change of the seasons. Experiencing fewer hours of sunlight during the winter can lead to a lack of sufficient vitamin D levels in the body which, in combination with holiday stress, can cause depressive feelings among many. While receiving chiropractic care is not the only or best solution when it comes to depression, it does have the ability to positively impact the body’s nervous system, providing a drug-free approach to managing some effects of depression.

5. Immune System Boost

Were you aware that receiving chiropractic care provides your body with health benefits that can improve your immune system? Chiropractic care is a drug-free method of balancing the nervous system which helps you stay active thus, boosting your immune system!

If this holiday season has taken a toll on your body and you would like to receive more information about how chiropractic care can help you, get in touch with Atlas Injury to Health, a clinic located in Winter Garden, Florida, today by clicking the contact us tab.

Atlas Orthogonal | A Life-Changing Antidote

An evolved specialty in the chiropractic techniques that have succeeded in changing the lives of numerous people across the globe. A method that doesn’t involve any pain and can revert the lost balance of a person, allowing him/her/they to fuel natural healing abilities.

This advanced spinal adjustment technique is specially formulated to make sure that the craniocervical junction is aligned aptly. It is considered a safe and most effective method to eliminate the distress one has been facing for quite a while. There are several apparent reasons for the misalignment of the upper cervical spinal cord, but the primary one is trauma. The disturbance can be physical, emotional, or even chemical.

A chiropractic doctor uses a light technique to adjust the spine, whose primary purpose is to improve the misaligned atlas bone to an orthogonal position (at an angle of 90 degrees). Unlike the conventional chiropractic methods, atlas orthogonal is a gentle and painless way to get your Atlas back to its correct position. Patients sometimes don’t believe they went through a treatment because it doesn’t generate any sort of discomfort.

Expectations After The Treatment

Your body will feel a number of changes after the Atlas (C1 or uppermost vertebra) is aligned. The reason for these variations is your central nervous system, which is now responding to the made structural corrections. You might feel alleviation of symptoms, which is considered normal. You will also experience muscle stiffness and tiredness after the treatment for a few days.

How Frequently Will You Need Chiropractic Adjustments

Well, its answer lies in your health issues! It is not possible to pick a particular number of times one will need to undergo this treatment. However, if you step into the treatment zone, you can always rely on some universal principles to keep yourself healthy.

If you have never been to a chiropractor before, then it’s possible that your body has been misaligned for months, or even years, and has adjusted to your spines misalignment. These happenings do not always cause discomfort, however, they are still very problematic. You might not feel its pressure unless you develop some symptoms like aching joints, vertigo, neck pains, migraines, dizziness, and other troubles connected to your spinal column.

Why Atlas orthogonal?

The healthy growth and development of your body depends on spinal corrections. Spine misalignment can cut off the connection between your brain and body, causing pain, stress, anxiety, and depression. Atlas Orthogonal can help you get rid of medications and expensive surgeries.

To be free of neck pains, muscle aches, and back pain atlas orthogonal should be your next option. Dr. Michael St. Louis is one of the few chiropractors in Central Florida that specialize in this unique and life changing technique. To improve your atlas health, give Atlas Injury to Health a call to make an appointment. Your pain free life is on the horizon.

Three Reasons Why You Should See A Chiropractor

The most efficacious pain-killing therapy for aches in the back, muscle, and joint can be achieved through chiropractic treatment. Theoretically speaking, if the structure of your body, predominantly your spine, is properly aligned, then you might not need to go for medication or surgical options, because the body will heal itself. So, if you have never been to a chiropractor, well, this article “Three Reasons Why You Should See A Chiropractor” is going to change your mind.

The points shared in this post are for everyone, and if you think that a chiropractor can only reduce the level of pain, you are wrong! Giving a visit to a chiropractor will answer a frequently asked question, “how do I fix backpain long term?” Here are some fantastic benefits of chiropractic care:

Posture Improvement

Our posture changes as we age, and it is challenging to keep our bodies in perfect shape. These balance problems can occur due to several factors. One of the primary ones is being inactive. People who sit, stand, stay in one place for long periods of time often report back problems. For example, a person who continuously works on the computer without taking short breaks will more likely experience balance problems.

A Chiropractor might use the benefits of a BEMER, because it helps improve blood flow and oxygenations (if needed). Chiropractic treatment requires several visits; it can be every month or a week; it entirely depends on your condition. At Atlas Injury to Health, you will find the best doctor and team, who will take care of your neuromuscular disorders, and make you feel better in no time!

Pain Elimination

A majority of people think that chiropractors only diminish pain in the back, but that is false. Chiropractors can reduce and possibly eliminate pain in other parts of the body as well. If you weren’t aware, correct alignment of your spine plays a vital role in decreasing pain from various parts of your body. It includes shoulders, neck, various headaches, and body aches caused by joint problems. If the pain in the back of your neck interfering with your daily routine, you should see a chiropractor for faster results.

Increased Mobility

People who visit chiropractors experience an upswing in their flexibility. If you have your skeletal structure aligned, you will begin to feel lighter, and it will become easier to stretch yourself. All the heaviness and the muscle strain that didn’t allow you to move freely will perish.

Chiropractic care not only relieves your body from pain but also accelerates the bodies healing process. So, if you have aches in any part of your body, it might be the right time to visit a chiropractor. Our clinic in Winter Garden is currently accepting new patients. You can visit whenever you need to. Let Dr. Mike add tranquility to your life.

Chiropractic Care for Athletes

What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is commonly known as a type of holistic practice that focuses on the body’s main structures (the skeletal system, nerves and muscles) and their relationship with a person’s overall health. Chiropractors emphasize the idea that the nervous system is the one bodily system that directly impacts every other system in the body. Therefore, the health of the nervous system can be an indicator of the health of various parts of the body. The misalignment of the spine is known among chiropractors as a subluxation and it will hinder nervous system functions. In order to remedy this interference, adjustments to the spine are made to restore joint function and support the nervous system. These chiropractic adjustments will subsequently reduce bodily pain and allow for an increase in movement and performance.

Why should athletes receive Chiropractic Care?

Recognized to be a natural, non-invasive form of health care, chiropractic is a type of treatment frequently utilized by athletes within the United States and in other parts of the world. Many teams of professional sport leagues such as NBA, NFL, MLB and the MLS have employed their own sports chiropractors to treat their athletes before and after their performances. Receiving specialized care that is geared towards increasing strength and shortening healing time can optimize an athlete’s overall performance.

Chiropractic Care for Athletes

Regular chiropractic treatment will not only aid in maintaining an athlete’s strength but will also contribute to improvement with their range of motion and function. The continuous physical strain athletes endure has the potential to cause complications with their spinal alignment and movement. Undergoing proper chiropractic treatment can alleviate existing complications while helping to prevent potential injuries. Additionally, a variety of bodily injuries can cause symptoms that are seemingly unrelated (e.g. headaches, muscular discomfort, etc.). Our chiropractic treatment in Winter Garden can not only assist with the reduction of pain originating from the source of the injury but also alleviate the pain brought forth by underlying symptoms. Injuries can make or break an athlete’s performance; by receiving appropriate chiropractic treatment, athletes can ensure that they are being supplied with the tools and skills necessary to promote pain management and healing.

Why Atlas Injury to Health?

For those living in or around Winter Garden, Atlas Injury to Health will provide a highly experienced chiropractor who specializes in providing individualized chiropractic solutions.

Atlas Injury to Health in Winter Garden puts focus on:

Sitting is the New Smoking

We all know that sitting too much and not exercising is bad for our waistline. But did you know it is also bad for your health? In fact, sitting is so bad for your health that some people say it is the new smoking. Why is sitting so damaging to our bodies? One of the reasons is that it slows down our blood circulation. Poor circulation is linked to several chronic diseases including heart disease, stroke, and respiratory disorders.

What is Blood Circulation?

We need good circulation in our bodies. Our blood vessels are our body’s transportation system: from the multi-lane highways and freeways all the way down to small streets and narrow lanes. These blood vessels are making the deliveries of food and oxygen that is vital for our organs, muscles, and tissues to be able to do their job. These same blood vessels are also taking away the garbage, the waste products our body no longer needs. Now that you have an idea of how our circulation works, imagine traffic on these roads not moving more than 25 mph. It is not a good situation. And the same goes for your blood circulation. It means that blood is not getting to where it needs to be.

Why Do We Need Good Blood Flow?

Our heart is the main pump in our body and is the driving force behind our blood circulation. In addition, when we move our bodies, the movement of our muscles puts pressure on the blood vessels and squeezes them. This helps to move the blood and fluid all around the body even down to the tips of your toes. Our blood circulation suffers when we sit all day hunched over our screens or laptops. When our circulation is impaired, it slows or blocks the blood flow. That means the cells in your body can’t get all the oxygen and nutrients they need.

Can You Improve Your Circulation?

What can you do if your job requires you to sit in front of a screen all day? Standing up every hour and moving around will help. You could also consider getting a standing desk. Obviously, exercising and working out a few times a week will improve your circulation. But what else can you do? Chiropractic is great at improving the flow of blood and fluid in your tissues. By gently adjusting and manipulating the bones in your spine and other parts of your body, the pressure on muscles and nerve tissues is released, and this allows the blood to flow more freely throughout your body.

Introducing BEMER Therapy

A great supplemental treatment to Chiropractic care that helps to improve blood circulation is BEMER Therapy. BEMER Therapy improves microcirculation and promotes the blood flow in the smallest blood vessels. Next week we will go into detail about what exactly BEMER Therapy is and why everyone should consider using it to improve their health.

Can Chiropractic Improve Your Workouts?

For top athletes, these days, how they recover from their training schedule is as important as the training session itself. The same is true for the amateur athlete. Whether you are a marathon runner, triathlete or a weekend warrior, how you take care of your body before and after your workouts is key to getting the best out of your performance. It may even help you shave seconds off your personal best. Can chiropractic improve your workouts? We look at how chiropractic care should be part of every athlete’s training schedule.

How Do Top Athletes Stay In Shape And Minimize Injury?

Top athletes have a grueling training schedule. How do they stay in shape and not get sidelined from injury? Take New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, winner of six Super Bowls, not to mention being the oldest non-kicker ever to win one. How does he stay in peak athletic performance and prevent injury from forcing him to retire from the game? Some may say he is genetically blessed. However, when you read about his training schedule, you can see that he is dedicated not only to his physical body but also to his overall health. Good genes only go so far. A strong commitment to your health and wellbeing takes you the rest of the way.

What Do Top Athletes Do To Improve Workouts Of Their Body?

Long gone are the days when a pre- and post workout routine was made up of some simple stretches. Reports say that LeBron James spends $1.5 million on his body yearly, which includes cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers and NormaTec leg boots with pulse technology. Tom Brady follows each workout with a specific massage that is meant to keep his muscles long and soft. Agreed, there are few who have this kind of money to spend on their athletic training but there are many things you can do that are within everyone’s budget. Chiropractic care, for example.

The NFL Uses Chiropractic Care

An estimated 90% of all world-class athletes routinely use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and boost their performance. All NFL teams employ on-staff chiropractors. So do 72 percent of PGA golfers and the majority of NBA, MLB and NHL teams.

“Chiropractic just makes you feel so much better,” says Tom Brady. “When I walk out of the clinic, I feel like I’m about three inches taller and everything’s in place. And as long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.”

How Does Chiropractic Care Help Athletes?

Chiropractic care is incredibly beneficial for helping you heal from a sports-related injury or improving your overall athletic performance. Those receiving chiropractic care experience shorter recovery time from injuries and hard workouts, increase performance when it comes to speed, agility, and reaction time, and have improved balance and power in their workouts or sports performances.

Common Sports Injuries

A sports injury is one of the main reasons my patients come to see me for help. Sports-related injuries to the neck and back can knock the spine out of alignment, causing pain not just in the spine but in connected muscles, ligaments, and joints. Chiropractic care reduces pain and restores normal function. It reduces or replaces the need for drugs and pain-medication that are addictive and can dull reaction times. Chiropractic can also reduce the risk of surgery that will put you out of action for weeks, even months.

No matter what kind of sport you take part in, make chiropractic care part of your healthcare routine to help you recover from injury and allow you to continue to keep doing what you love.

Pain in the Neck? What is Causing Your Neck Pain and How to Fix It.

Pain in the neck is common to many in today’s digital world as we sit hunched over our screens. People experience pain or discomfort in their neck so often that they may think it is normal. We break down what is normal when it comes to neck pain, what is not, and how you can get help for your sore, aching neck.

What Is Neck Pain?

Pain in the neck is referred to by doctors as cervical pain. The cervical vertebrae belong to the top portion of your spine. Apart from the vertebrae (the bones) in your neck, there are also many tissues and muscles that all work together to hold your head in place and allow it to move and turn. Pain located in the neck could be radiating from the vertebrae themselves as we see in degenerative disc disease or a herniated disc. Or the pain could come from a muscle strain in the neck or from injury to the muscles and tendons, which is what happens with whiplash, for example.

What Does Neck Pain Feel Like?

Neck pain can be a general discomfort in your neck or neck muscles. Neck pain often shows up as a dull aching or soreness that is worse with movement or turning the head from side to side. It can also be a sharp shooting pain or a tingling sensation. The pain may radiate down your arm to your hand or up the side of your head or into your jaw area. The type of pain you feel is usually related to the cause of the pain.

What Causes Neck Pain?

  • Sitting or sleeping in an awkward position
  • Prolonged use of computers, laptops, screens, smartphones when you are not properly positioned
  • Injury or trauma (often an injury that occurs during sports such as playing football, or during extreme sports events)
  • Slipped disc or herniated disc
  • Whiplash (perhaps the most common of neck injuries that occur during a car accident)
  • Osteoporosis (thinning of the bones)
  • Tumor or other infection that causes damage to the structure of the spine
  • Natural curvature problems (scoliosis or loss of normal curve)

When Should You See a Doctor About Your Neck Pain?

The majority of neck pain problems are not life-threatening. However, if you experience the following, you should call your doctor or emergency services immediately:

  • Neck pain accompanied by a severe headache or continuous vomiting.
  • Neck pain accompanied by the worst headache of your life.

The above symptoms could be a sign of acute meningitis and typically the neck pain is severe and is combined with vomiting, a rash, high fever as well as body-wide muscle pain. Meningitis is not very common but important to be aware of nonetheless.

For all other types of neck pain, while not an emergency, we recommend that you visit your primary care physician or doctor, especially if you develop neck pain following a sports injury or car accident.

Don’t Suffer In Silence. Get Help For Your Neck Pain

Neck pain is really that, a pain in the neck. Walking around with pain and stiffness in the neck limits your activities and upsets your day-to-day life. Neck pain impedes your sports performance and hampers your training program. While we always recommend talking with your doctor or primary care physician about the pains in your neck, what they have to offer you is limited. Often, a doctor will tell you that the pain will go away by itself or they will prescribe a pill to reduce the pain or inflammation. This will temporarily take the pain away but it does not fix the underlying problem.

What Treatment Options Are Available For Neck Pain?

Medical or sports massage is often recommended but again, this does not get to the root cause of the neck pain, particularly if your neck pain is caused by bad posture or bending over your laptop or screen for several hours a day.

Chiropractic treats not just the pain in your neck but gets to the root cause. My goal as a chiropractor is not only to treat the pain but also to prevent the pain from coming back, as well as stop it from developing into a more serious injury. Pain prevention is one of the main goals when I am treating a patient with chiropractic care. First, we help with the pain and then we prevent it from coming back.

Chiropractic Care For Pain in the Neck

Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people seek out chiropractic care. In my practice, I work with patients to resolve their neck pain using chiropractic techniques. In addition, I analyze their posture with a computerized posture analysis and give them guidance on corrective exercises that they can do in the comfort of their own home. Let’s face it, with the amount of time we all spend leaning over our laptops or bending our necks to stare at screens, neck pain is very common. However, you don’t have to suffer unnecessarily. There are solutions for your neck pain and chiropractic is one of them.

The Health Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Over the last few decades, chiropractic has become a highly-respected health care profession, within the mainstream medical system. Chiropractic care is an extremely safe treatment method and when it comes to back pain, chiropractors are the referral of choice by the medical establishment. For those who may be unfamiliar with this form of healthcare, let’s take a closer look at what a chiropractor does and the benefits of chiropractic care treatment.

What is Chiropractic?

While the perception that chiropractic treats back pain is not wrong, practitioners of chiropractic care do so much more than just “crack backs.”

The World Health Organization defines the scope of chiropractic care as the “diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health.” As you can see here, chiropractic treats the entire neuromusculoskeletal system, i.e. all the nerves and muscles in the body. Additionally, chiropractors look further than that, specifically at how problems with your nerves, muscles, and joints may lead to other issues that affect your general health.

This connection between the neuromusculoskeletal system and the health of your whole body is fundamentally important to a chiropractor. While a chiropractor is an expert at treating your back and neck pain, their longer-term goal is bigger than that: they aim to restore and preserve health.

Why Do You Need Chiropractic Care And Benefits of Chiropractic Care?

For the majority of people, their first experience with chiropractic is usually after they suffer a back injury or car accident that leaves them suffering from whiplash and neck pain. Frequent, debilitating headaches are another reason why someone may turn to a chiropractor for help.

Chiropractic care is highly recommended for back and neck pain. However, it may also be appropriate for many other health issues.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states that researchers have looked into “spinal manipulation for a number of conditions ranging from back, neck, and shoulder pain to asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and headaches. Much of the research has focused on low-back pain, and has shown that spinal manipulation appears to benefit some people with this condition.”

Scientific Research on Chiropractic

The NCCIH states that “a 2010 review of scientific evidence on manual therapies for a range of conditions concluded that spinal manipulation/mobilization may be helpful for several conditions in addition to back pain, including migraine and cervicogenic (neck-related) headaches, neck pain, upper- and lower-extremity joint conditions, and whiplash-associated disorders.”

So if you have back or neck pain, chiropractic care is highly recommended. In addition, if you suffer from shoulder pain, asthma, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, migraines or headaches, chiropractic treatment could be the answer you are looking for.

Chiropractic: A Safe and Drug-Free Alternative

Chiropractic practice emphasizes conservative management of the neuromusculoskeletal system, without the use of drugs and surgery. Some people prefer not to take pain medication, which can be highly addictive and comes with side-effects. Invasive surgery is also something that people prefer to avoid wherever possible. For sufferers of both acute or chronic (long-term) pain in the lower back, neck or other areas of the body, chiropractic offers a very safe, effective alternative to other pain relief treatments.

Dr. Michael St. Louis at Atlas Injury to Health Winter Garden, FL is a highly experienced chiropractor, who is passionate about delivering meaningful chiropractic solutions that result in peace of mind and well-being.
